In March 2010, Steven Long of late Line, ABC reported on SUPERNOMICS, in fact the report was titled:

“Supernomics report exposes serious failings in the super sector”

  • New research exposes the fact that millions of Australian's are paying for financial advice they are not receiving, and the more you pay, the worse the results.
  • Since 1996 more than 40 billion has been lost from Australian workers super accounts due to super accounts being silently milked by commissions and it’s estimated they will lose another $120 billion over the next 10 years.
  • Over the past 10 years many super funds have delivered about what you would get if you held your money in a standard bank account.

See the video further below for the full report.

Steven Long of late Line, ABC reports on SUPERNOMICS, March 2010.
Lateline talks to David Whiteley from the Industry Super Network about the failings in the superannuation system and how billions are being milked from the savings of working Australians.

Here are some advantages to buying property in your Super

  • Ability to leverage or gear property investments via superannuation. Leverage or Gearing is borrowing money to invest. By adding borrowed funds to your own funds, you increase the amount invested, so the returns, as a proportion of your original capital are magnified.
  • You have met the concessional and non-concessional contribution caps.
  • You may be able to bring forward the purchase of  an investment property, as you have cash available within your Super Fund.
  • At a certain point properties can be sold tax free.
